Don’t stack Florence and Wangi on a Darwin day
Darwin to Litchfield is 90–120 minutes each way. One sealed circuit works. Florence stairs plus Wangi plus a late flight is how mixed groups fail in the heat.

Best for: Fly-in visitors choosing one honest circuit from Darwin

The decision: pick Florence + Buley, or Wangi — not both icons plus Lost City on a same-day Darwin return. The drive is real. The heat is real. Swim signs are separate at each pool.
Not walked — planning from official access times and this park’s sealed vs 4WD split. A Batchelor night is the usual fix if you actually want both waterfalls done well.
The decision
If you sleep in Darwin and return the same night, you have one honest circuit. People who “see everything” usually see car parks and a staircase argument.
Fuel in Batchelor. No public transport. Visitor Pass if you are interstate or overseas — not Kakadu, not Uluru, not camping.
Who should not attempt this day-trip
Anyone stacking Florence stairs, Wangi loop, Lost City and a late Darwin flight. Anyone who needs a guaranteed swim at two pools. Anyone without 3 L+ carrying capacity in the build-up.
If two cool mornings are why you came, book Batchelor or a Florence/Wangi Category A camp on parkbookings. That is the two-day itinerary, not a tougher Darwin day.
What goes wrong
Leaving Darwin at 8 am → you meet coaches and heat at the 160 stairs.
Wangi after Florence “because we are here” → you arrive to a closed tape or a full loop in the worst hour.
Adding 4WD because the sealed icons were easy → the track and the daylight disagree.

Can a Darwin day tour do both waterfalls well?
Some products list Florence, Buley and Wangi. That is still one long coach day, not a permit to ignore swim signs or heat. Confirm the live itinerary. A tour ticket is not a Visitor Pass.
What if Wangi is closed when I arrive?
Look from the lawn if you can park. Do not scramble. Greenant’s plunge is a sacred site — no swim. Tolmer is viewing-only. Lost City is 4WD. Reverse toward Batchelor or Florence if that water is signed open.
