Greenant Creek to Tjaetaba Lookout

Area: Wangi Falls

Shady Grade 3 walk from the Greenant Creek picnic area up to Tjaetaba Falls lookout. The plunge pool and downstream area is a sacred site — do not swim there. The tiny pool above the falls is not a signed swimming hole. No camping. Pair with Wangi, not with a second plunge-pool plan.

  • Grade 3 — moderate; steep in sections
  • About 1.5 hours typical
  • 2.7 km return
  • Effort: moderate
  • Best for: A shady add-on near Wangi when you want walking more than another iconic swim

Distance, grade, time, swimming status, 4WD track status and open/closed status change — verify on official NT Parks Litchfield pages and parkbookings.nt.gov.au before you go.

Where you start

Bridge across Greenant Creek, picnic area / car park

Start at the signed picnic area near the car park and the bridge across Greenant Creek, on the sealed Litchfield Park Road near the Wangi side of the park. Toilets and picnic tables are by the car park. There is no campground.

How to get there

  1. Sealed road from Batchelor past Florence toward Wangi. Visitor Pass if required. Check park-open.
  2. Park at the Greenant Creek car park. Do not block picnic bays.
  3. Read the sacred-site / no-swim signs before you walk. This is not a quieter Wangi.

How to do it (step by step)

  1. Start at the bridge. Follow the shady creek upstream.
  2. Climb steeply to Tjaetaba Falls lookout, then only as far as the signed track allows.
  3. Do not swim at the base of the falls or downstream — official: sacred site. Stay out.
  4. The official walk note mentions a tiny pool above the falls; the same page says the top is not monitored and swimming is not recommended. Treat Greenant as a lookout walk, not a swim.
  5. Return the same way. Picnic at the car park tables, not on the grass.

What to expect

Greenant is a shade-and-lookout walk on the Wangi side of the sealed road. Creek, climb, Tjaetaba lookout, respect. It is not the park’s quiet swimming hole — Cascades and Walker Creek are those.

The base and downstream area is a sacred site. Official instruction is not to swim there. That is enough language for an unofficial guide. Do not invent the story. Do not publish a workaround.

Logistics

Sealed 2WD. Visitor Pass if required. Toilets and picnic tables at the car park. No camping. No kiosk. Water and food came from Wangi or Batchelor.

Extra tips

  • Good second walk after an early Wangi swim, not a replacement swim.
  • Carry water. Steep sections in heat are still heat.
  • Some Tabletop sheets mention Greenant links — that does not make this car park a casual circuit start. Book Tabletop properly.

Often paired with Wangi Falls Loop— only if energy and weather allow.
